My favourite place

It was a weekend made of small, imperfect moments —

the kind that slip through your fingers if you’re not careful,

the kind you only recognize as golden when you’re right in the middle of them.

We spent time as a family — laughter bouncing off the walls,

small feet racing across the floor,

and somewhere between the noise and the hush,

I caught myself thinking:

this is it

This is where we’re building something real —

not in big declarations or flawless days,

but in the mess and the quiet,

in the way we keep showing up.

There was chaos —

balloons, cake, sugar-fueled joy,

and then the hush of home,

where we slipped off the world

and just let ourselves rest in each other.

We watched two terrible films,

laughed when we weren’t supposed to,

rolled our eyes,

and yet it felt like the most honest kind of joy —

not because of what was on the screen,

but because of the way you leaned into me,

the way you smiled when you thought I wasn’t watching,

the way the simplest things turn into gold when it’s us.

We walked into the wind,

hair tangled, cheeks cold,

and your hand —

your hand found mine like it always does,

like a tether pulling me home.

And here’s where it gets hard to admit:

sometimes, even in these moments,

my mind drifts.

I wonder if you ever held her like this,

if you ever whispered soft things to her,

if you once looked at her the way you look at me now.

It drives me mad,

this ache, this comparison,

this need to be the only one,

the first, the everything.

I hate the part of me

that picks at old ghosts,

that measures myself against someone

who doesn’t even have a name in your mouth anymore.

But then —

then you pull me closer without a word,

you laugh that soft, tender laugh of yours,

and I remember:

you are here.

Not in the past,

not in what was lost,

but here —

with me,

in this love we are building,

raw and real and ours.

We talked, as we always do,

let our words wander between old scars and new hopes,

and in all of it,

we were simply in love,

at ease,

and together —

my favorite place.
